It is ATRHC's mission to locate those special people who are willing
to invest their time and talents to become one of our special dog parents!
Dogs that become available for adoption through ATRHC have been through
a very thorough vet check. They have also been temperament tested over a
two week period. We adopt dogs to qualified homes that fit the dogs needs.
Upon calling our organization for available adoptees, you will be asked a series
of questions, depending on the answers to these questions we may or may not
have a dog that fits your needs. Our main goal is to make the dog happy. We
do not believe there are any "perfect" dogs. Dogs are what you make of them.
ATRHC's guidelines for adoption are pretty strict. We are not the only organization
with dogs for adoption. We put a tremendous amount of time into rehabilitating
the dogs that come into our care. We want our dogs to experience life to its
fullest. Dogs want more out of life than your house and yard. They want
to experience what you experience every day. We are looking for people
who want an additional family member. Participation in dog parks,
dog activities, dog play groups, romping on the beach, in the mountains, or other
exciting indoor/outdoor activities that a dog would find stimulating,
several times a week, are a must. The dogs age, temperament, activity level
and personality will be closely matched to the person who gets to adopt him/her.
Items considered for adoption qualification will include but not be limited to:
- » Dog run/pen/enclosure on property
- » Current dog not spayed or neutered
- » Previous / current animals in the household are kept in the garage for any length of time
- » Previous / current animals in the household have been kept in the yard unattended for long periods of time
- » Evaluation of current animals condition, appearance and basic good manners
- » Activities past and present you and your dog have participated in
- » All members of household must be present.
- » All existing dogs in the household must be present.
- » A veterinary Reference.
- » If you live in an apartment a letter from your landlord stating any dog requirements, such as size, specific breeds not allowed, etc.
Families with children over 10 years of age will be considered for adoption if the children are
well behaved, respectful, and show proper dog etiquette in the interview. Participation for the
children and the dog in a 4-H group or other animal learning group is strongly recommended, if your approved for adoption.
We are not able to adopt dogs to third parties; meaning if you are getting the dog for someone else. This also applies to dogs as gifts, we do
not believe an animal should be given as a gift. The person who is actually going to be responsible for the dog must be present.
We have built a foundation for our adopters to work from, what happens next is
up to you.
We feel that each individual dog is special in his or her way. They will
bring their own special joy to your home. All dogs put up for adoption have
been spayed or neutered.
ATRHC, Inc. occasionally has puppies available for adoption. Altering of puppies will be at 3 months of age and will be performed at
ATRHC, Inc's veterinarian. Puppies that come available are approved to be healthy by our veterinarian, once adopted and in the possession
of their adoptive parents, ATRHC will not guarantee the puppies health. Should any illness incur, adoptive parents should consider and
be prepared for the fact that additional veterinary expenses at their own vet may be incurred. ATRHC does not reimburse for expenses
that are not pre approved and that are not performed at our veterinarians facilities.
We also have a "Seniors for Seniors" program for dogs over 10 years of age.
ATRHC does not want any dogs to not be able to find loving homes due to money issues.
We recently raised our adoption fees based on the fact that we have vet bills that continue to grow instead of decrease
or simply break even. Therefore we have no choice but to charge adoption fees that are comparable to the Humane Society
and other local rescues.
ATRHC will allow you to break up the adoption fee into two payments.
